Website Implementation – Non-Profit Standards Organization
The Customer:
Rosettanet, founded in 1998, is a self-funded, non-profit organization. It is a consortium of major information technology, electronic component, semiconductor manufacturing, telecommunications and logistics companies working to create and implement industry-wide, open e-business process standards. These standards form a common e-business language, aligning processes, on a global basis, between supply chain partners. Rosettanet is a subsidiary of the Uniform Code Council, Inc.
The Problem:
The organization’s website, which was their primary method of communication and their only “product,” had content that was so dense that information was difficult to find. The organization needed:
- To communicate in a secure and complex manner to a worldwide audience of manufacturers, developers, potential members and staff
- To provide role-based web views for segmented types of information
- To provide a revised hierarchy and look of information that was easy to understand
- To develop a unified source for web content direction
The Vision:
The primary goal of Rosettanet is to accelerate B2B integration via industry implementation efforts for XML standards and emerging services thereby increasing the speed and number of implementations across user communities and attracting adjacent industry sectors on a worldwide basis.
Solution:
NEC took the following steps to redesign the existing website and to help restructure the organization’s web content:
- NEC worked with the organization to form a steering committee
- NEC helped the steering committee to create a long-range web
development plan
- An NEC employee was placed as their in-house developer
- A new hierarchical structure was developed for the site
- NEC redesigned the architecture, navigation and look of the existing website
- Redundant information was eliminated from the central repository
- Role-based security ensured members received access to targeted, specific information
Benefit:
- A website with clear, concise and segmented information
- A web-based process for rapid development and implementation of
manufacturing standards
- Developers now receive requests in an organized manner from a single
source
- Clarification of process flows
- Organized definition and dissemination of complex business information
- New look and feel and easier navigation of the website
The Right Solutions Partner:
The client required a partner who understood the manufacturing process and had strong analytical capabilities. Rosettanet was able to have continuous access to a team of highly trained NEC web application developers. Based on their own experience, NEC Solutions America was able to analyze and expedite their business process and refine and increase the usability of their website.
